The RT-PCR test is the test recommended by the DGS and the most common test for diagnosing infection with the SARS-Cov-2 virus.
It is a molecular test that amplifies the genetic material of the virus (RNA) and hence it is one of the most sensitive and specific techniques to detect, track and study this type of virus.
Sample collection is performed using a nasopharynx (nostril) and oropharynx (throat) swab.
