Our first product to be launched in mid 2010 will be a spinit® CRP test available as an all-inclusive disposable disk cartridge. CRP is an acute phase protein actively circulating in the body during an inflammatory response. In the clinic, it has increasingly become a marker to monitor the progression of inflammation. It is also a critical marker to discriminate between bacterial or viral infection.
High levels of CRP are associated with bacterial infection. This is an extremely relevant test parameter because it may significantly minimize the inappropriate prescription of antibiotics and may effectively guide treatment for other infections and inflammatory conditions. Reducing prescription of antibiotics in general practices may help decrease the levels of antibiotic resistance on a local and global scale.
